Welcome AtoZ-ers and other blog friends! This month I'm participating in the AtoZ blogging challenge, and you'll see a post every day (except Sundays) about one of the Songs of my Heart. Today's edition: Karma Chameleon by Culture Club. (If my embedded video won't work, you can listen at this link).
I first heard this song when it was new and I was a teenager. It's one of those songs that worked it's way into my brain as a catchy bop, and mostly I had no idea what the song was supposed to mean. I mean, I can parse it line by line, but what's it about? Something about being in love with someone wishy washy about you? Or maybe it's the singer who's ambivalent? You know, all these years later, I'm still not sure what it means, but it does make me want to dance.
lyrics from AtoZ:
There's a loving in your eyes all the way
If I listened to your lies would you say
I'm a man without conviction
I'm a man who doesn't know
How to sell a contradiction
You come and go
You come and go
Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chameleon
You come and go
You come and go
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green
Didn't hear your wicked words every day
And you used to be so sweet I heard you say
That my love was an addiction
When we cling our love is strong
When you go you're gone forever
You string along
You string along
Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chameleon
You come and go
You come and go
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green
Every day is like survival
You're my lover not my rival
Every day is like survival
You're my lover not my rival
I'm a man without conviction
I'm a man who doesn't know
How to sell a contradiction
You come and go
You come and go
Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chameleon
You come and go
You come and go
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green
Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chameleon
You come and go
You come and go
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green
Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chameleon
You come and go
You come and go
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green
Karma Karma Karma Karma Karma Chameleon
You come and go
You come and go
Loving would be easy if your colors were like my dream
Red, gold and green
Red, gold and green

This song was used in an ad when I was a teen -- it was as confusing as the song. LOL. Fun to listen to, though :-)

I guess the lyrics don't always have to make sense to make a good song.
DeleteSecond blog using this song for K! I have always like it.
ReplyDeleteNice! Glad to see there are still other fans out there.
DeleteOh, the debates in my 7th grade home ec class about Boy George. Although, the girl who was into him did end up marrying a gay guy (I heard this years later). That's a story. Anyway, I remember this song very well.
ReplyDeleteA lot of us didn't know what to make of them back then, for sure.
DeleteIt is a very catchy tune. I remember when Boy George was big.
ReplyDeleteAll the rage for a while there.
DeleteI've never heard this song before but I think it's about an on-off again relationship.
ReplyDeleteThat's the main vibe I get, too.
DeletePeople can appear to be n8ce and sweet and all you want until time goes by and they change into something else. You dream that the person you are with will be that person of your dreams...but they are not. They fooled you with their charm. I always liked this song.
ReplyDeleteAh! Now that tracks.
DeleteI like this one - but I like "Do You Really Want to Hurt Me" even more! Boy George was such an eye-opener for so many back at the time!

Oh yes! That song still works for me, too.
DeleteI loved listening to this one again. I'd never seen the video, but that doesn't make it any clearer what the song is about -- ha!
ReplyDeleteNo, it really doesn't help. It is fun, though!
