What skill do you wish you had, either as a hobby or a career builder?

I wish I could sew. It comes up a lot--repairs and alternations to clothing, making useful household things. Sadly, I just don't have the hand dexterity (arthritis) and these days, the eyesight isn't what it used to be either.
When I was a kiddo, my mother made all my clothing. I later learned that this was as much out of saving money as it was out of love, but, as a kid, I just knew how special it made me feel that I had unique items crafted just for me.
I guess the good news that I'm not dripping in remnants of fabric and bric-a-brac, trying to figure out how to fit my hobby in my house like some of my friends who sew are!
How about you? What do you wish you could do? I'd love to hear about it in the comments below.
No desire to sew. Had to take Home Economics in middle school - disliked it so much. Tweeted.
ReplyDeleteI took it, too, and was terrible at it, but wished I could "get" it.
DeleteWhen I was at sea, I learnt to darn my socks, that's about my limit.
ReplyDeleteI used to be be able to darn socks and sew buttons back on and the like, but between my eyesight and pincer grip problems, I can't do that anymore either.
DeleteI have made a few clothing items entirely by hand, but never was very good with a sewing machine.
ReplyDeleteMy great gran was a great stitch-woman. I have the last quilt she ever made--and it was stitched by hand.
DeleteYes, it's a great skill to have. I'm no good at sewing either. I can knit though, but can't be bothered to these days.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to learn to crochet, but that's tricky for me as a knitter. I get the basics and can do some, but it's hard to commit when I can knit so much faster!
